Tech signing day is here

By Ken Sugiura

Happy Signing Day!

Georgia Tech is expected to bring in 20 signees Wednesday with a couple possible late surprises. Four of them are already in the fold as early enrollees – cornerback Step Durham, defensive end KeShun Freeman, linebacker Tre Jackson and quarterback Matthew Jordan.

There will be plenty to dig into, like the expected signing of Georgia Military College defensive end Kenderius Whitehead, and the signing day announcements of defensive tackle Mike Sawyers and running back Myles Autry of Norcross High.

For the first time, Tech will produce its own ESPN3 show that will begin at 8:30 a.m. that is expected to run for about 2 hours.

I personally won’t be filing a lot of updates Wednesday morning for ajc.com, but the following is a primer on how we’ll be handling the action.

From the Editor:

Start with us at 7 a.m. and come back often as the AJC will be your Signing Day Central.

No matter the platform or device you prefer, our team will have your team covered in depth.

Go to ajc.com to get four important features

–We want to display your photos documenting your athlete’s signing. Email to recruiting@ajc.com and we’ll have photo galleries showing the big day.

–AJC recruiting expert Michael Carvell provides the latest news and a running analysis of the day.

–You can tap into our live updates on our new Current ATL page throughout the day and find commentary from other news sources, the schools involved and updates on anyone who matters on National Signing Day in one-stop shopping for information. You can use #SigningDay or #NationalSigningDay to follow or be part of the conversation. That link – www.ajc.com/currentatl/college-recruiting.

–We’ll offer a new feature, a region-by-region signing list, that will be updated continuously.

Go to myajc.com to get special premium features

–You’ll get minute-by-minute updates from our beat writers on site at Georgia, Georgia State and Georgia Tech beginning at 7 a.m., and in the afternoon the same update on the first-ever signing class for Kennesaw State as Vince Dooley visits with new coach Brian Bohannon on the KSU campus.

–You can get deeper insight into the signings for Georgia and Georgia Tech with a complete list of inside information for each player.

–Our photo coverage extends to our premium site as well with multiple galleries.

In our Print AJC Sports section

–You’ll find eight pages of expanded coverage including special analysis by our beat writers and columnists.

–Complete lists of SEC, ACC, State and AJC Super 11 signings.

–Interviews with key recruits and coaches.

In our Olive E-edition

–Wait, there’s more: We’ll provide coverage and analysis only found in the E-edition with a page on each of the major conferences, the ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12 along with information on the other Division I conferences and independents.

ESPN has Leggett (RB), Durham (DB), Lewis (DB), and Whitehead (DE.. in 2012) all as 4* recruits. Also Autry (RB/WR) is as well, who I think we get by default.

I was kind of shocked that we didn't sign any Griffin's this year.

Sawyers signed with Tennessee so you can't stop waiting for that LoI to come in. Autry still looking good, though.

I'll be good for Jordan to be at spring practice.  Hope he looks strong.

@JacketMan

I made a post yesterday which you responded to, and I think probably what I posted wasn't entirely clear.  It was regarding what Autry said yesterday, and that I thought that statement made it look to me like he was NOT coming to Tech.  It sounded like you thought I meant that the article itself led me to that conclusion.  You definitely seem to have more inside info than anybody else on these blogs, so I hope you are correct in that Autry still looks good, but I still think what he said yesterday does not make it look good.

@JM64  I like what I see on his game film.  Looks like a great prospect for running our offense.

@96JB

Good to see you've got your priorities in line (smh), 96JB, and are off to great start showing your concern of how many GT fans are or aren't commenting on the signing day blogs.

FYI:  either way, it doesn't change who will or won't sign with GT.

Sorry if I confused you. My intent was I thought Autry looks good; I didn't think Sawyers looked good. With Sawyers signing with Tennessee, my first projection was correct; let's hope my second is, too. I wanted to add that I have no idea how Tennessee can legally sign 36-40 players in one season, with an 85 scholarship limitation, and the annual limitation.
