Sweeting’s high school jersey to be retired

By Ken Sugiura

For being the first alumnus of his high school to become a professional athlete, former Georgia Tech cornerback Rod Sweeting will have his jersey retired at Luella High School Thursday.

Sweeting will take part in a ceremony at the Henry County school and be presented with his No. 6 jersey. The school, which opened in 2003, also will name the locker room after him.

“It’s a big accomplishment for him and the school, and we wanted to honor him,” Luella coach Nic Vasilchek.

Sweeting beat the odds by making the Saints roster after being signed as an undrafted free agent last April. He played nine games during the regular season and also saw action in both of the Saints’ playoff games.

Why does the GTAA wait until late Friday to release bad news about GT athletics?

According to the AJC, 2 more GT FB players will be joining Darren "**** *ell" Waller with a TWO GAME suspension to start next season.

The 2 players to join Waller on suspended status for those first 2 games  are Anthony Autry-WR and Dennis Andrews-ABack.

The likely culprit for the suspensions is  ALL THREE HAVE FAILED MULTIPLE DRUG TEST(S) and therefore have been hit by a school-mandated 2 game suspension, which is still LESS than the 4-game rip that UGA's athletes get for only a 2nd failed drug test.

Simple Question:

Has CPJ lost control of GT 's FB program?

2 RS-FR with a chance to START leave/quit GT FB BEFORE Spring Practice, Devine  weighs in at 370lbs AFTER  Winter workouts, he was joined by Errin Joe that ballooned from 300 to 326lbs. (not good weight either)  and now we have 3 players getting 2-game rips for failed DRUG TESTS in the off-season.

An outsider would say that CPJ has discipline issues or has lost control of the team, especially when you add in 25 or 26 losses over the last 4 years.

Tech's pass rush provides opponent's QBs too much time.

It makes evaluation of DBs, especially cornerbacks, very difficult and probably why he went undrafted.

Good going to make the Saints and get to play.

@MikeBanning Where did you get the weights on Joe and DeVine?  The coaching staff had Joe at 303 and DeVine at 350- trying to get to 340.

I don`t recall seeing your name as an official spokesman for GT.  So unless you have some official weight announcing job, please don`t spout off erroneous info.

@juvenal  That's such a fundamental misrepresentation of what I said.  Grow up, dude.

@juvenal It is kind of douchy to go off topic and start criticizing the overall team in article that has to do with an individual's accomplishments.  Kind of like what you did on Mr. Jackson's write up.

then i would have to give up $port$, George.........BG, believe Radar went off topic, all i said was wtg........& lawyers that were football players putting cpj & the TO on a mock trial is still tangential.........but maybe i don't take any off this seriuosly enough.......if NLRB in DC upholds the Northwestern kids, NCAA system will become extremely lawyered.........
