Former Tech player hired to personnel staff

By Ken Sugiura

Georgia Tech hired a former Yellow Jackets player for an opening in its player personnel staff and promoted a staffer hired 2 ½ months ago.

Brad Waggoner, who played inside linebacker for the Yellow Jackets in the 1994 and has coached high school football in Georgia, Florida and Alabama for the past 10 years, was named Tech’s assistant player personnel director. Pete Hurt, who was hired for the same position in March, was promoted to player personnel director.

The job that Hurt first filled came open when Mike Cassano, who was hired last May, took an assistant coaching job at Massachusetts. The director job became vacant when Matt Griffin was fired May 1 for what was believed to be expense account abuse.

Hurt has coached at the high school and college level, including eight seasons as head coach at Samford. The personnel staff, which also includes Joe Hamilton and Saeed Khalif, is now complete, as is the entire Tech football staff.

That is one good thing I like about Johnson.  He gives opportunities to guys whose hearts are at Georgia Tech.

That's smart.  Most of those guys don't make much, relatively speaking but are likely to work harder than average because of a continued commitment to the program they love and want to succeed.

3 Alums and former players on staff.

Saeed I believe has Florida which in my opinion is the most important state for GT.  & up the East Coast.

This Waggoner looks to be strong around Alabama & Georgia.

and we all know Lil Joe
