Georgia Tech has hired its new assistant athletic director for communications and public relations. The athletic department announced on Wednesday the hiring of Chris Yandle, who previously held a similar position at Miami.
“There is no doubt that Chris is one of the most progressive and creative minds in communications and social media strategy at the collegiate level,” athletic director Mike Bobinski said in a statement. “We were very aware of, and impressed by, the great work Chris was doing at Miami and are extremely excited to welcome him and his family to Georgia Tech. I’m confident that everyone who follows the Yellow Jackets will notice and enjoy the impact Chris will have on the quality and content of our communications in the years ahead.”
Yandle was promoted to the assistant AD position last year after joining Miami’s staff in 2012. He was the primary contact for the Hurricanes football team, a role he will also fill at Tech. He was given the Rising Star Award by the College Sports Information Directors of America this year. He is also co-writing a college textbook on social media plans in sports.
He is scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 4. Yandle replaces Dean Buchan, who held the position from 2007 until June.
