Autry tweets about meeting with Johnson

By Ken Sugiura

Not one to keep his followers uninformed, Georgia Tech signee Myles Autry announced from his Twitter account shortly after 1 p.m. that he was meeting with coach Paul Johnson.

Autry has indicated that he is reconsidering his enrollment at Tech after his older brother Anthony Autry, a wide receiver on the team, was dismissed from a violation of the athletic association student-athlete code of conduct.

Glad to see CPJ is welcoming these kids the real world. But you have to ask yourself did Myles learn anything from his brothers experience? I think the answer is no. So in a sense after seeing his brother sent home he quits to punish Tech. CPJ and Tech don't need problems like this.

Losing both Custis and Autry will hurt.  Hopefully Autry will reconsider and Custis will come back after working on his grades!  Both together would be awesome!  However, I am firmly in Coach Johnson's and Tech's corner on discipline!  He has been widely criticized for not recruiting the same "elite" players that uga goes after!  So we do bring some in and we see issues with some of them.  I am pleased to see that this stuff will not be tolerated at Tech no matter who it is!  Sadly, many NCAA schools will tolerate any behavior short of murder to win a few more games!  At Tech, they prepare athletes for life after college and do not use them for the money!  This cannot be said for many schools which is why the athletes are organizing to get paid!

I agree with NorwegianBlue. Keep the program sound and disciplined. I know that CPJ gave these players every chance to come back to the team.  If they would not follow the rules, they made the choice.  I wish Miles Autry the best, and I hope will support his team whereever he goes.

As a long time resident of this state, I have to say that I am proud to have CMR & CPJ as head coaches of our flagship programs. Winning is important, conference titles are great, and national championships are always worth striving for, but it matters more how the programs are conducted on a daily basis, and these two men set the standard, in my humble opinion. Kudos to CPJ, and good luck to Autry. Tech will be fine without him.

I see the NCAA not allowing him to enroll in another FBS school until fall 2015. They have to "punish" him in some form or fashion. Don't count out Clemson or Auburn because of their style of play.

I'm glad to see CPJ handle this in the manner he did. Tech did not have to grant a release from the LOI but CPJ showed, yet again, that he going to act in a manner best for his players. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

Guys send out some prayers for 1-4GT.

Posted by 1-4GT's niece......

Have not seen 1-4GT in the last few weeks. His brother R..... had a massive heart attack on June 18th. R.... has done well from the heart surgery, but was in hospital with complications from gout diabetes and renal failure.

I have approval to post this note. I'm trying to go visit 1-4GT this weekend or early next week.

Would love to see him in GSU Blue

He still hasn't gotten his Clearinghouse approval yet, so nothing is a done deal with any program.

My understanding is that PJ will grant him a release from his LOI if asked; I don't know about any conditions, however.

@NorwegianBlue

Neither Georgia Tech nor Georgia have been "setting the standard" lately.  Much more like lowering the standards for proper player behavior I would say. Not sure why Richt and Johnson have had so many issues with undisciplined players lately, but that has been the case, unfortunately.

Always good to see that you have a compassionate heart under all that blog bluster.

@glsjunior probably not happening, but GOL at UCF might be in the mix or maybe OLE MISS.

Based on his thanks for the "Patient," he probably isn't sure how to read it either.

He also said, "No harm to GT." I'm not sure what he means by that. To me though, there is harm. We wasted a scholarship on him.

Bob -- Calling the HC by his 1st name is classless & disrespectful.......among other things.

@GTBob Agreed. It amazes me how some of these recruits don't see a prime opportunity before them.

The question is, does he really want that release?  Will Johnson try to convince him that it is his best interest to stay at Tech?

@SouthGAJacketMan In my opinion, I don't think he was going to last two-three seasons. It's best that the ties are severed now. I'm not trying to down the guy but something just didn't sit right.

@SouthGAJacketMan Nope.  We weren't going to fill up anyway and he never used the scholarship so nothing was wasted on him.

We don't even know if he's gotten his final grades yet (to qualify to get into Tech), so this may all be moot.
