Son of former Tech star in LLWS

By Ken Sugiura

Georgia Tech fans seeking a rooting interest in the Little League World Series that began Wednesday night in Williamsport, Penn., can back the team from South Nashville, Tenn.

The team’s starting shortstop is Drew Byers, the son of former Tech first baseman Scott Byers, who was a starter on the Yellow Jackets’ first College World Series team.

Coincidentally, calling the games for ESPN will be Nomar Garciaparra, a star of the 1994 team and teammate of the elder Byers.

South Nashville plays its first game Friday at 3 p.m. against the Mid-Atlantic champion. The game will be carried on ESPN.

Also of note: Tech signee Blake Jackson played for the 2009 Warner Robins team that also played in the Little League World Series.

Hard to be critical of the Little League World Series but I would much rather see more about Tech football.

The UGA blogs don't seem to have any trouble reporting about their football team.  Tech? not so much.

Playing Lil League baseball this LATE in the year is WRONG. When I was a Kid the 4th of July weekend was the Lil League World Series Championship. Kids are in school and don't need to still be playing baseball.

@DON1938 You need to click around the site a bit more, plenty of Tech stories.

About the only thing Ken hasn't reported is the scout team d-line's favorite color- and give it time.

Besides there's 'From The Rumble Seat', JacketsOnline and Yellow Jacked Up, if you're really jonesin for Tech information.
