Tech athletes earn combined 3.0

Judging by the grades for the spring term, Georgia Tech athletes recorded another solid semester with a mean GPA of 3.00. It’s the second consecutive semester that Yellow Jackets athletes have done that, which is a first, according to Tech.

Among highlights:

Freshmen also recorded a 3.00.

54 percent of athletes achieved a 3.0 or higher.

Nine of the 13 teams were over 3.0.

The top five: Golf (3.38), softball (3.28), women’s swimming and diving (3.22), baseball (3.17), women’s track (3.17). (The baseball and softball GPA’s were team records)

The GPA for the football team for the entire academic year was 2.72.

Six teams improved from fall 2014 to spring 2015

31 athletes achieved a 4.0.

A breakdown of the 373 athletes enrolled at Tech in the spring semester:

74 percent of athletes are majoring in business or engineering.

49 percent of male athletes are pursuing a business degree.

31 percent of female athletes are pursuing an engineering degree (compared to 28 percent of male athletes).

Degrees conferred in 2014 for the student body, by percentage: Engineering, 61 percent; 12 percent; Sciences, 10 percent; Ivan Allen, 6 percent; Architecture, 3 percent.
